Abstract

The objectives of this paper are to conduct a preliminary analysis of Biomedical Engineering (BME) industry and to present Research and Development (R&D) management of BME industry by using a case example of R&D management from European Union. An information and data are obtained through the method of literature review. The results are a comparison of BME industry's status in terms of market figure, economic figure, and R&D investment among Europe, United state and Japan, which are leading countries in health technology development. In addition, R&D management in BME industry with respect to research and Technology Development Framework Program, reglatory frameworks, education and collaboration between public and private sectors are described. Finally future research opportunities are discussed.
