Forecasting Adoption Trend and the Growth of Mobile Payments Technology in Thailand

Abstract

This research studies the trend on technology acceptance and adoption of mobile payment systems in Thailand, where the payment via a mobile phone is relatively new. There are various forms of mobile payment whether it is through RFID, NFC or even a payment through on mobile phone applications. The main purposes of this research are to analyze how the mobile payment will be adopted in Thailand, what the penetration rate would be, and how the growth pattern would be like so that the management of firms can effectively allocate resources and setup a development plan to support the future growth. The information on the cases of mobile payment technology adoption in China a nd Japan are also reviewed for the comparative study with the case of Thailand. The Bass Forecasting Model is applied to analyze the pattern of technology adoption of mobile payment technology in Thailand. This study, the data that got from the research is the data for the people who interested for this technology whether a service provider cellular (Service Provider) or shops (Merchant) and the data obtained. It is all to prepare for investing in mobile payment systems in Thailand.
