Curriculum Standard For Living Together Happily In Diverse Society

Abstract

Regarding to the globalization era, Thailand Ministry of Education had assigned the Office of Basic Education Commission to come up with the new standards that would be deployed for Thai students in the near future. This qualitative research, in responses to such requirement, is administered and to: 1) investigate the curriculum related to Standard for Living in Diverse Society for basic education 2) initiate the standard of living in Diverse Society for basic education. This research was done following with the qualitative methodology, the researcher collected data from both secondary and primary sources. After studying the secondary sources, the researcher received the guideline of the strand of standard that had been discussed through focus group comprised of experts from various professions. The first draft of the curriculum standard and benchmark derived from the 2 focus groups were furthe rpresented to all parties involved. The derived standards were as follows: 1) The ability to live together well in a diverse society which could be divided into four more sub-standards. 2) The student's ability to manage life and working by themselves, were also divided into five more sub-standards. 3) The ability to effectively use various tools and the recognition of their roles in a broader perspective which could be divided into three more sub-standard. To prepare for a more practical use in the future, the researchers had further investigated and invited more opinions from school administrators and teachers. The samples from four parts of Thailand (Northern, North-Eastern, Central, and Southern Part) as well as Bangkok, were participating expressing the opinion in writing.
