Organizational Innovation: Case Studies Of Implementing Lean Strategy In Service Organizations

Abstract

Organizational innovation is creation or adoption of an idea or behavior that is new to the organization with the purpose of enhancing competitive advantage and business performance. Lean strategy is one of organizational innovations focusing on value creation in operations and waste reduction in every process, which could lead to higher standard of work. Expected benefits of implementing lean strategy include quality improvement, overall cost reduction, and higher customer satisfaction in term of quality, price, and delivered product/service. This paper presents case examples of three organizations in different service industries including healthcare, banking, and airline industries; which successfully implemented lean strategy in their organizations. The analyses of challenges/obstacles along with critical success factors of exploiting lean strategy as organizational innovation are provided.
