Asst. Prof. Dr. Nathasit Gerdsri participated with the research team at Dept. of Engineering and Technology Management, Portland State U. (USA) to enhance the work on the operationalization of technology roadmapping process. The work results have been recently published in Elsevier’s Journal of Technological Forecasting and Social Change, 2009, issue 76(8) pp.1055-1077 under the title of “Value Driven Technology Road Mapping (VTRM) process integrating decision making and marketing tools: Case of Internet security technologies”

This paper presents a new approach to Technology Roadmapping by integrating marketing and decision methodologies. While much of the research into technology roadmapping has been applied to products that represent a one-time ROI to the manufacturer. Currently, Internet technologies are resulting in web services that use an entirely different financial and business model of licenses and subscriptions. This paper addresses the software services applicability and documents a start-to-finish application of cross-discipline models and tools to form a reallife roadmap from market drivers to project headcount. Pitfalls in the roadmapping process are documented and suggestions for improvement are also discussed.

This paper along the other ones that Dr. Gerdsri and his research team published earlier confirmed that CMMU actively engage the international research community in the areas of technology management, especially the development and implementation of technology roadmapping techniques.
