CMMU PhD research on healthcare leadership by Apichai Somboonpakorn, PhD Candidate, has been presented at and published in conference proceedings by the 25th Annual Conference of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management (ANZAM) recently held in Wellington, New Zealand during December 7-9, 2011.

A result of a pilot study, the research paper is entitled “Effects of Shared Leadership on Team Effectiveness in the Thai Healthcare Industry” with an objective to examine hypothesized relationships between shared leadership components and team performance at 10 hospitals in Thailand, including Mahidol University's Ramathibodi Hospital. Results reveal that shared leadership increase team effectiveness through strong cohesive group. The rise of job demand under shared leadership does not appear to cause any rise in job stress, or have a negative effect on team performance.

A graduate of Northwestern University in the USA, Apichai Somboonpakorn is a member of CMMU's first PhD cohort, supervised by Associate Professor Dr. Sooksan KantabutraAs part of his PhD dissertation, Apichai has been investigating shared leadership effects on team performance at Mahidol University's Siriraj Hospital, the largest and oldest hospital in Thailand and among the best in Asia.  Findings of his doctoral research are expected to offer important managerial implications for enhancing team effectiveness at hospitals in Thailand and elsewhere.

The ANZAM recognition of this report confirms CMMU’s status as a leading business school in Asia.
