CMMU faculty member to publish two articles

on .

Asst. Prof. Dr. Winai Wongsurawat, CMMU faculty member will soon publish two new articles in the International Journal of Aviation Management and the Journal of Agribusiness in Developing and Emerging Economics. The articles are:
Sowawattanakul, P., Wongsurawat, W. (2013), Domestic airline networks and passenger demand in Thailand after deregulation. International Journal of Aviation Management 2(1/2) 35-53.
Wongsurawat, W., Weerathamrongsak, P. (2013), The rubber industry in Thailand: a review of past achievements and future prospects. Journal of Agribusiness in Developing and Emerging Economics. 3(1), forthcoming.

The first article, “Domestic airline networks and passenger demand in Thailand after deregulation”, studies how different types of airlines have reconfigured their networks after deregulation reforms. Results show that the dominant full-service carrier has moved toward a hub-and-spoke model, while smaller players have adopted additional point-to-point network features. The analysis also reveals that airports that start-up airlines choose to enter often enjoy significant surges in total passengers.

The second article, “The rubber industry in Thailand: a review of past achievements and future prospects.”, argues that the recent success of the Thai rubber industry stems from the competitiveness of local firms in the upstream industry and the leadership of foreign firms in the downstream sector. To further strengthen competitiveness, a more concerted effort to encourage innovation and technology absorption by local downstream firms is recommended.

The abstracts of both articles can be found on the CMMU research website.
